23 Weeks

The "bump" is getting bigger by the day and so is Little Miss Remy! At 23 weeks she is still around the size of a papaya. The weight and length are the same approximates as Week 22, so she is around 12 inches long and anywhere between 14 and 20 ounces. I can definitely tell everything is stretching and getting bigger... For the past few days it feels like she is sitting on my bladder and every time she kicks I can DEFINITELY feel it! haha

During this week Remy's face is fully formed, but still needs fat to fill it out. If she's anything like her mama, I'm sure she will have plenty of fat in her chunky cheeks by the time she makes her debut! :) She also continues to listen to my voice and my heartbeat. I should probably start playing some fun music for her to listen to! :)

My next check-up is on Tuesday, January 3rd. It seems like it's been a long time since I've been to see the doctor (almost 5 weeks - apparently the doctor's office gets crazy around the holiday) so I'm excited about finally getting in to see him. I still haven't gained much weight, but I can tell my belly is definitely getting bigger, so I'm sure there is nothing to worry about. I feel like I am starving all the time lately and seem to be eating more, so I'm sure I will have gained at least some weight at this check-up.

I called the hospital about child care classes but they told me to call back after January 1st. Hopefully we will be able to still get into the January classes, otherwise they are not offered again until March. I'm sure that still gives us plenty of time, but I would rather just get the classes over with and feel a little more prepared.

Here is the bump at 23 weeks! I am terrible at remembering to take photos each week, but I plan on getting better at it. Right now I really have no desire to see how big my stomach is each week, but I am sure someday I will wish I had these photos to look at and remember...

Merry Christmas

We hope you all had a very merry Christmas! We had such a great weekend spending time with both of our families. The festivities started on Friday, Mandy and her family came home that day and I had the day off, so I spent the afternoon with everybody. Unfortunately, Bryant had to work on Friday, but he was able to come to my parent's house after work, so we all had dinner together.

On Saturday - Christmas Eve, Bryant woke up early to go hunting with Verl. Whitney & her family pulled into town around lunch time, so we had lunch with the Muirs and then headed back out to my mom & dad's house for the afternoon. We had an early dinner and went to Christmas Eve Mass at my church in Damar with my family. After mass we ate (again) and then opened presents at my parents' house. Holy cow are we all spoiled! Santa brought Bryant a clay pigeon thrower and some tools and I got a diaper bag and some other goodies. Even Remy was spoiled that night, getting shoes, headbands, and a homemade hoodie towel that my mom sewed. I think the kids got everything they wanted and more...Hannah with her iPad 2, Alex with an iPod touch, Ethan with a PSP, and Jenna with a Barbie four-wheeler! After getting home at around 1:30am, Bryant & I changed into different pajamas, packed up our presents for Bryant's family, picked up Belly and headed to Ruthie & Verl's to stay the night, so that we could wake up there on Christmas morning.

On Sunday, Christmas morning we awoke to Lyla patiently waiting for us to get up so she could see what Santa brought her. She asked Santa for a pink bicycle and she must have been pretty good this year, because that is exactly what she got! She was so excited and had so much fun - we loved seeing how excited she was that Santa ate his cookies and drank his milk. Again, we were very spoiled - Bryant got a new gun safe that he has had his eye on ever since we moved home and I got LOTS of super cute maternity clothes. After opening presents we ate an awesome breakfast and then got ready to head to Grandma Shirlee's for lunch. At Shirlee's we were able to visit with the Muirs and open MORE presents! Here, Bryant got a new Norelco shaver and I got a fabric steamer! YEAAAAAA! :) I know I'm getting old when I get excited about fabric steamers... After lounging around all afternoon while Bryant & Shaun went hunting, we headed back out to my parents' house for supper. *This might have been the point where I decided that I wouldn't eat again for at least a week...

On Monday, we both had the day off. Bryant & Shaun went out hunting again and then we met up with everybody at the Bowling Alley for lunch - okay, okay, so I did eat again... :) After lunch Whitney, Shaun & Lyla packed up their presents and headed back to Kansas City. Mandy & her family came to see our house (they hadn't been there yet) and to see Remy's new room. After visiting for awhile we decided to head back out to mom & dad's for the rest of the afternoon. For dinner we all went to Hill City to see Jamie & Jill's new house and to eat (yes, I said eat) AGAIN! :)

On Tuesday, Bryant & I both had to go back to work, and Mandy & Justin headed back to Kansas City. They decided to let Alex & Ethan stay at Grandma's for another week, so hopefully we will be able to see them at least a few more times before they head back home.

We are already looking forward to having another day off next week for New Year's! I'm not sure what our plans for New Year's Eve are yet, but I think we are both thinking something low-key...maybe dinner & a movie at home. :)

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year,

Bryant, Danielle, Remy & Belly

The Difference a Year Makes – 1st Annual Post by Bryant

Oh my, what a year it’s been.

365 days ago, Danielle, Belly, and I were enjoying our blissful life in Eudora, KS. Danielle would be wrapping up her 2nd to last finals week and taking a much needed breather before beginning her last semester of law school in January. Belly was probably cozied up next to the fire or napping on the couch (as was I). Christmas was approaching quickly, and I had taken paid time off from my work as an insurance representative for Farmers Insurance for the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. We were looking forward to spending time in our hometowns of Stockton and Damar with our families and friends.

Fast forward to the present. Danielle, Belly, and I are now enjoying a blissful new life in Stockton, KS. We are awaiting the much anticipated arrival of the newest member of our family, our baby daughter Remy Elise. In the meantime, Danielle is working as the Assistant County Attorney in Rooks County, as well as doing private work at Hageman Law Office in Stockton. I took over the Branch Manager position at the Farmers National Bank in Stockton. Belly is now napping on a new couch in a new home in Stockton.

I suppose none of that is really news to anyone, so I’ll get to what this post is actually about: the journey from there to here.

After Christmas 2010 and the New Year celebration, it was back to work for me, however Danielle didn’t have to start her last semester until later in January. While she was out of school, we had a lot of fun. There were many nights spent at our favorite bar & grill, Set ‘em Up Jacks, in Lawrence, and many more nights spent enjoying a bottle of wine at our home. Even though I was back to work, January and most of February were not very busy times for me. Although I had an occasional frozen pipe claim or fire to adjust, for the most part I spent most of my time in the office or working from home, so I was able to get by on not a lot of sleep.

It was during these late nights that Danielle and I resumed discussing our future plans. With Danielle being a semester from graduating and starting her career, and me reaching a point where I thought it was time to move on from my current job, we began exploring our options. We had talked in the past of moving back home for several reasons. We both had graduated high school from Stockton, we had several friends still living there, it’s a nice small town to raise a family, and most importantly, both sets of our parents live in or near Stockton. In addition, we were tired of the hustle and bustle of the city and traveling on the highway every day commuting to work and school.

On the other hand, we each have sisters and their families living in Olathe that we got to see on a regular basis, and we would miss being able to see them whenever we wanted. We also had great friends living in the Kansas City area and hated the idea of moving away from them. We also wondered if the transition to a small town would be easy after getting use to the city and all of its conveniences and attractions.

I’m not sure when or if the decision was ever actually made to move back to Stockton, but everything began happening very quickly in the first quarter of 2011. We had talked to Ed Hageman about Danielle working with him at his law firm and eventually buying it out. We met a couple of times with Ed to discuss the details of the contract; however we still weren’t quite sure that we would move home. Our biggest concern was if I could find a suitable job and make enough of an income that we could support a family together. If we moved home, Danielle would get a guaranteed, but small, salary for the assistant county attorney position, but would be on her own to get clients for the private side of the business and we really just didn’t know what kind of income we would have.

In February, we had scheduled a short vacation to Las Vegas with Nathan & Julie Glendening. It was designed to be one last hurrah before we started families (and that’s exactly what it turned out to be). Vegas was great. It was a nice break from work, school, and the mounting pressure to figure out what we were going to do with our lives. Danielle and Nathan even had some success gambling. We played a lot of Blackjack and some Roulette. We ate an amazing dinner at the Top of the World CafĂ© at the Stratosphere. We went to Mystere, a Cirque de Soleil show and it was awesome. We drank ourselves silly and had a good time.

While in Vegas one day, I received a phone call from a head hunter. She had heard from a family friend in Stockton that I was interested in moving to NW Kansas and that they were looking to fill a position. I did not get any information other than that; however I was excited for a job prospect since they were few and far between in and around Stockton. I scheduled a call back to the head hunter after I returned to Kansas.

In December of 2010 I began experiencing lower back pain and shooting pains down my legs. I went to a Chiropractor and was popped right back into place and felt great. The fix was short lived however and I began to have nagging back pains off and on. I saw 2 more Doctors in the next couple of months and they told me I needed to stretch. Each time I tried to stretch, it was worse the next day. My back and leg problems continued through January and February all the while everything else was going on. Work was difficult and I was starting to think that I wouldn’t be able to play golf while in this shape.

It was just after my second Dr. appointment in February that I returned the call to the head hunter. She still did not give me a lot of information about the job but just wanted to know about my qualifications. After we spoke she set up phone interview with the prospective employer. She finally told me that it was Farmers National Bank and gave me some information about them. I did some research and found that the FNB main office was in Phillipsburg, and there were branch offices in Stockton, Logan, Agra, and Kensington.

In late February, I completed a phone interview with Farmers National and they invited me for a formal interview on March 11. Luckily, I had already taken that day off from work to celebrate 311 day with my friends, and it also happened to be during the Big XII basketball tournament, which was in Kansas City.

At this time, I was pretty good friends with my supervisor at Farmers Insurance. He had known for some time that I was planning on leaving by summer of 2011 because Danielle was graduating and we had talked about moving home. I didn’t keep any secrets from him and didn’t think I needed to. In addition, I began asking about workman’s comp because of my back issues. I don’t know for sure that my back injury was work related but since I was having a hard time working I thought it was worth looking into. Anyway I went into the office on the morning of Tuesday, March 8, 2011 and my “employment was terminated.” I was not given a reason for my dismissal and was told in the state of Kansas employment is at will and termination does not need a cause. This was less than 2 weeks from me receiving my 2010 bonus and just 3 days away from my interview. I don’t know if me planning on leaving, being injured, and about to receive a big bonus had anything to do with my termination, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t anything else.

It was pouring rain that day. Having a company vehicle, they had scheduled a ride home in a Towncar. After cleaning out my personal items I was wished luck and on my way. I didn’t know what to think or do. Danielle would be home, not yet gone to class. I had been looking forward to quitting that job for 2 years and now I would never get the chance. I was embarrassed and humiliated.

Danielle was great. We drank champagne and celebrated the end of an unfulfilling job that I hated. I fielded calls from several co-workers, equally stunned as I was. We decided that we would keep this a secret and I would go to my interview as if I still had a job.

On Thursday, I went to KU’s Big XII tourney game at the Sprint Center with Shaun and then headed back to Stockton to prep for my interview the following day. Danielle was invited to the interview with me so we went together. I guess it’s a bank thing. Anyway, even with the added pressure of now needing a job, the interview went well. I did a good job of being humble while Danielle talked me up. I was told they would make their decision in a couple of weeks and I could expect to hear from them at that point.

After the weekend we headed back to Eudora so Danielle could continue school and I would just have to wait out the decision on my future. That week, another kid at Lyla’s daycare got sick, and since I all of a sudden had some free time, I decided to babysit her for a couple of days. After two days of carrying Lyla up and down the stairs at her house, my back was a wreck. By Sunday the following weekend, I couldn’t get out of bed. On Monday I went to a third doctor and finally convinced her to take x-rays. The x-rays came out negative/normal so she would not recommend an MRI. Again, she suggested that I try stretching.

The next day was even worse. After an hour and a half I was finally able to get out of bed and Danielle took me to the ER. By this time I was in excruciating pain and could not move at all. I received enough pain killers to get into the MRI machine and they found that I had a severely herniated disc. Finally, after 3 months of pain, we knew what was wrong and it was going to get fixed. I was scheduled for surgery the next day in Kansas City.

The surgery was outpatient and the surgeon thought it went as well as possible, even though it started about two hours late. Mom and Dad had driven up to be there which was nice, however by the time I got out and got home they could only stick around for a short while before the headed back. The recovery was to be 6 weeks. I spent a lot of time at home the first week playing XBox. The second week I began getting out and walking around. The back of my right leg all the way down to my heel had gone numb while in the MRI machine and the doctor told me it could take several months to a year for the feeling to come back. It still hasn’t.

The day after my surgery, I got a call from Farmers National and they offered me a job! Finally some good news. They told me that they would call me the following week to work out a contract and I thanked them. All of a sudden, our decision was made: we would be moving back to Stockton.

The next week FNB called and we worked on the terms of the contract and when I would start. Danielle wouldn’t be done with school until mid-May and I didn’t want to leave her too long before that, so I agreed to start at the beginning of May. This would give me about 5 weeks to recover and also to relax before jumping into another job.

It turned out that it also gave me plenty of time to prep our home to put on the market. Considering the housing market, we did not have high hopes for selling our home. We spoke to a realtor, however we found that with the diminished value of our home and me being unemployed, we couldn’t afford to use a realtor. We did pay a small fee for some online help from forsalebyowner.com, and Danielle went to work making a blog for our home, taking pictures, and getting the word out that our home was on the market. Meanwhile, up and down our block there were several other homes for sale and a couple of foreclosures as well.

Whenever we would get some interest in the home or someone wanted to look at it, I would take Belly for a ride while Danielle did some last minute cleaning and showed our house. We did this several times and had some mild interest. We watched as one couple that came and looked at our home on 4 separate occasions ended up buying a similar home 2 blocks over.

Meanwhile, we had heard of a nice home in Stockton going on the market. Although we had no hope of selling our home, we did get some interest in doing a rent to own contract. With the housing situation in Stockton being exactly opposite of everywhere else in the country (there’s really not many nice houses in Stockton, let alone any for sale), we went all in and put down an earnest payment on the home and decided to purchase it without ever seeing it. More on that later.

As April came to an end I was packing my bags and getting ready to move into my old bedroom at my parent’s house. The weather was getting nicer and we spent a lot of time in Lawrence on patios at some of our favorite places. We were making it a point to say goodbye to all of our friends and hang out with them all one last time. We threw a going away party at our house. Since we didn’t have anywhere to move our furniture anyway, we staged our home for showings, left a key in a lockbox on the front door, and went home on Sunday, May 1st. I would begin my new career the following day.

While my job was entirely new to me and I knew nothing about banking, it was pretty uneventful for the most part. Two weeks later, though, we returned to Kansas City to attend Danielle’s graduation on a Saturday and Lyla’s second birthday on Sunday. We stepped foot in our spotless, staged home for the first time in two weeks. After the graduation, we went into Kansas City where our friends John & Laura were throwing a party and we planned on crashing at their home and then going to Whit & Shaun’s the next morning.

We partied hard that night, not knowing when the next time might be that we would get to see and visit our friends in KC. The next morning we woke up in a hungover haze to Danielle’s phone ringing. I didn’t recognize the number and handed the phone to Danielle and said “It’s someone that wants to buy our house.” She answered as I went to the bathroom to clean up. When I came out she informed me that someone did indeed want to come look at our house – in two hours. Normally this wouldn’t be a problem, but we didn’t exactly leave it ready to show the day before. We said our goodbyes to everyone and raced 45 minutes home to clean up and leave the house before the potential buyer showed up. We didn’t feel good and we ended up being late to Lyla’s birthday party, but it was all worth it. In just over two months, we had sold our house, and the best part was that we weren’t closing until the end of June, so we had plenty of time to move all of our furniture into our new home.

We took ownership of our new home on June 11th. Two days later, Mandy had her third child, a baby boy named Eli. We had moved out of the old home the weekend before, and now frantically spent the week trying to get settled so we could go back to KC the next weekend to meet our new nephew. After that the rest of summer flew by.

Danielle spent most of the summer studying for the bar exam and I soaked up the sun when I wasn’t learning my new trade. Danielle took the bar at the end of July and then we spent our first anniversary attending an Ostmeyer family reunion in Estes Park, CO.

In August, we went to St. Louis to attend Grant & Emily Burchfield’s wedding. Right before we left Stockton to head to St. Louis, Danielle informed me that she was pregnant. We were incredibly excited about it but couldn’t really talk about it because Danielle’s little sister Hannah was riding with us to spend the weekend in Kansas City. The week after we returned was the Rooks County Free Fair in Stockton. We decided we couldn’t keep a secret and decided to go ahead and share the news.

In September our friends John & Laura Schmidt along with their son Jude came to visit during Labor Day Weekend and we tried to show them a good country time. We spent a week in Florida with my parents and Whitney, Shaun, and Lyla and had a lot of fun relaxing on the beach and eating a lot of seafood.

October flew by in a blur. We met my parents in Hays for dinner on their 36th anniversary. We attended Goblins Glory and a Halloween Party at the Hilbrinks. November went even faster. I got some pheasant and quail hunting in with my dad and then we spent Thanksgiving with Danielle’s family.

Now here we are less than a week from Christmas. I am at my happiest point in my life. I’ve been blessed in so many ways. Back in April I was rehabbing my back and waiting to start my new job in Stockton. I was doing a lot of waiting at that time. Danielle and I knew exactly what we wanted. We had worked hard for several years to get to where we were and to have the opportunity that lay ahead of us. But we had to wait. We had to wait for Danielle to finish school, graduate, and pass the bar exam. We had to wait on my back to heal, wait to start my job, wait to sell our house, and wait to move into the new house. We had to wait until the time was right to start working on a family.

Well now the waiting is done and I feel like we are living the life we were meant to live. The life we have been working toward. And the best part is that I’m doing it with my best friend and my love.

Merry Christmas to all and may everyone be as blessed and lucky as me.

-Bryant

Kick, Punch & Roll!

At 22 weeks Remy is a kicking, punching, and rolling machine! It seems like she is moving constantly. I am surprised at how much I can feel her now and also how strong the kicks are. Everything I have been reading says that I should be able to start figuring out her sleep cycle by when and how often she moves...but like I said, she moves ALL THE TIME! I'm starting to wonder if she ever sleeps! Uh oh.

Right now she should be around 12 inches long and anywhere between 14 and 20 ounces according to one website. Pretty much everything else says she weighs around 1 pound now. Her fruit comparison this week is a papaya (which I've never had nor seen, so I'm not sure how big this is exactly.) The books also say that she is sleeping around 12-14 hours a day (lets hope that's true) and looks like a miniature newborn.

The past week I've started to feel achy in my hips and lower back. I'm not sure if it is a sign of things to come or if it's just because I over-did it last week. (More about that in a minute.) I've been feeling alot of pressure in my lower stomach and feel like I am carrying her low. I think this is a good thing because I would take the pressure over crowded lungs ANY day! The books also say that I could get an "outtie" any day. I really hope this doesn't happen, at least not this soon...outties kind of creep me out. haha!

This past weekend we had our 4th Annual White Elephant Christmas Party. While it was in a different house this year, with different people in attendance, and I was unable to partake in the flowing wine it was still SUCH a great time! We started these parties while we were living in Eudora with our Kansas City friends, however, none of them were able to make it out here this year. This was the biggest one so far and possibly included the funniest gifts yet! Gifts ranged from half empty bottles of liquor to a bowling ball (carrying case included) to the famous As Seen On TV Eggies maker! :) In preparation for the party I did alot of running around all week, cleaning and cooking - so I think that could have contributed to my achiness. Looks like it might be time to start slowing down a little. Either way, it was a GREAT time and totally worth it! :)

We are really looking forward to Christmas this weekend and getting to see all of our families, including Mandy & family and Whitney & family! We really miss getting to see them whenever we wanted... In other family news, this past weekend my little sister, Hannah, turned 15! I cannot believe she is this old already. She is a freshmen in high school and even drives a car to and from school! I have loved every minute of watching her grow up and could not be more proud of the person she is. She is unbelievably smart, beautiful and is one of the sweetest people I know. (I can say these things here without her getting a big head because I'm pretty sure she doesn't read my blog! haha) Anyways, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my favorite little sister! :)

Merry Christmas!

Bryant, Danielle, Belly & Remy Cakes

I would like to introduce you to...

Remy Elise Muir! Well, I suppose I can't introduce you just quite yet, as she is still hanging around in my belly...but you get the idea! :)

We officially decided on her name after having many, many, many discussions about her middle name. We have known for awhile that if we were having a girl we would name her Remy, we just couldn't agree on a middle name for her. Because Remy could easily be a boy or girl name, it was important to me that her middle name be very feminine - in order to avoid any confusion. Although, I'm sure with a unique name like Remy she will still have some future annoyances, but really...who doesn't have SOME issues with their name? For as long as I remember, more people than not tend to spell my name as "Daniel." So I guess even if you have a 'normal' name, there is no guarantee. :)

I am so happy to have her name figured out and can't wait to officially meet Miss Remy Elise! This past weekend we put up a new decoration in her room with her name on it - adorable! (See photo below) Bryant calls her "Remy Cakes" which makes me melt every time...hopefully she enjoys her nickname as much as I do!

Love,

Bryant, Danielle, Belly & Remy Elise!

P.S. In Belly news, (I'm talking about our dog here, not my expanding stomach!) we have been having some issues with keeping him off of the couch recently. It's my fault because I was letting him get on the couch with me when I laid down. Anyways, with the baby on the way, we've been trying to train him to listen better (yeah right) and stay off the furniture - especially when uninvited. HOWEVER, despite our best efforts, now he is sleeping on the couch every time I come home for lunch AND after work!

I suppose you could say that Belly & I are not getting along at the moment and after some stern discussions, he doesn't seem to be getting the point. Hopefully he will stop before he is banished to the garage...or worse, outside! GASP!

21 Weeks

Well we're past the halfway mark and on the downhill slope! Only 19 weeks to go! :) My mom has been having trouble figuring out how many months I am based off weeks, so I think I will go ahead and start posting both weeks and months. 21 weeks would make us in our last week of the 5th month. Therefore, next week we will be beginning month number 6! I think I like the way that sounds better!

At 21 weeks our sweet little girl is the size of a banana, which makes her around 10.5 inches long and around 13 ounces. HOLY COW - she is almost a pound already! She is doing all kinds of things, like: producing meconium, (if you don't know what this is, don't ask - yuck!) moving around several times during the day, and she can now hear and recognize my voice....pretty exciting!

This past weekend we went to Kearney with several people from Stockton. It was such a good time! We ate really great food, watched a hockey game (a first for both of us), went bowling, sat around and visited, and shopped! It was a very relaxing and fun weekend. We are done with Christmas shopping, although we are stilling trying to find a digital SLR camera/video camera. We're not in a hurry, but would like to have one by the time Little Girl Muir gets here.

I have been feeling really great lately, however, I am starting to dread the 3rd trimester. Everything I am reading keeps telling me to enjoy being comfortable while it lasts, because I will be miserable soon enough...I'm really not looking forward to that. Oh well, in the end it will all be worth it! :) (But in the meantime I am going to pray that my 3rd trimester will be as easy as the first 2 have been - I probably just jinxed myself though!)

Whitney & Shaun are letting us borrow their glider and this past weekend my mom brought it back from KC with her. Little Girl Muir's room is filling up quickly! Everytime I walk past her room, I stop and look inside, imagining what it's going to be like when she's actually in there. I catch Bryant doing it alot too! Speaking of which, Bryant is going to be the best dad in the world. He has been unbelievably patient with me and is always eager to help out around the house. Little Girl Muir & I are so lucky to have such an awesome guy in ours lives! :) I think she already has him wrapped around her little finger...

We have decided to start reading books about what is going to happen AFTER she gets here, and not just books about pregnancy. I started reading one last night...who knew there were so many kinds/colors of poop! Soon I am going to check on classes at the hospital and look into infant CPR. It's starting to get real folks!!!!

Until next week,

Bryant, Danielle, Belly & Little Girl Muir

P.S. We have officially decided on a name for our little girl...will be posting it soon! :)

Little Girl Muir's Room

As promised, here are a few pictures of Little Girl Muir's bedroom. This is her crib bedding and the vinyl wall decals that I put up this weekend. I still have more to do, but this is the work in progress:

P.S. Before anybody yells at me, I know you aren't supposed to have the bumpers in the crib BUT she isn't sleeping in there yet...I promise I will take them out upon her arrival! :)

20 Weeks!

You know what 20 weeks means, right? WE'RE HALFWAY THERE! :) This week seems like a huge milestone. I cannot believe that we have actually made it to the halfway mark and that in just 20 more weeks (give or take) we will have a sweet baby girl moving in with us.

In baby news, Little Girl Muir (f/k/a Baby M) now weighs in at around 10.5 ounces and is around 6.5 inches (crown to rump) or 10 inches (crown to heel). She is about the size of a canteloupe, which seems enormous - and trust me I can tell she is getting bigger. I feel like my "bump" is constantly getting larger and my clothes smaller. For the most part I have felt pretty good. The achiness in my abdomen is not awful and really only bothers me when I roll from side to side at night. I still haven't gained any weight, which Dr. Hodny doesn't seem worried about...so I'm still not complaining, but I imagine the pounds will start packing on soon enough. Speaking of packing on the pounds, I have been starving lately. Every time I eat I get full really quickly, so I don't eat much - but then an hour later, I'm hungry again! It's annoying, but I guess that's what happens when your belly is full of baby. :)

Bryant spent this past weekend deer hunting and working with their new hunting dog, Molly. It started snowing early Saturday morning so Belly & I stayed at home where it was warm. I did some deep cleaning and also worked on Little Girl Muir's room a little. I had my eye on a bedding set for awhile, so once we found out we were having a girl I went ahead and ordered it - it looks perfect in her room! I also put up some vinyl wall decals which are adorable - I will put up pictures soon. Her room is coming together quickly and it is really starting to seem real that soon we will no longer be a two person family! (But in the meantime, I am taking every opportunity I have to get a nap in!) :)

This coming weekend we are going to head to Kearney, NE with a group of friends to do some shopping and to go to a hockey game. It sounds like it's going to be alot of fun and I am really looking forward to getting out of town for a few days. We are pretty much done with Christmas shopping, so my shopping will likely revolve around the little girl that tumbles around in my belly all day! :)

We have definitely decided on a first name for Little Girl Muir, but are still working on her middle name. I promise I will post her full name as soon as the decision is made! :)

The bump at 20 weeks...

That's right, Baby M is a sugar & spice, ribbons & curls, beautiful little girl! Bryant & I couldn't be more excited about the news and have already made our first baby girl purchases. :) I think we're going to have a spoiled one on our hands...but seriously, how can you resist all of those cute girl clothes!

The plan was that we were going to have the ultrasound tech write down whether it was a boy or girl in a card that we brought with us and seal the envelope so that we could look at it later when we were by ourselves. (Actually, we originally planned on opening it on Christmas Day...but I just didn't have the patience to wait FOUR MORE WEEKS!) Anyways, our plan kept evolving and eventually we decided that we would open the envelope after leaving the doctor's office at dinner and then we would go to this adorable baby store in Hays, Bella Luna, to make our first gender specific purchase. However, then we found out that Bella Luna would close shortly after my appointment and that we wouldn't be able to go after dinner, so again - our plan changed. So, what really ended up happening was during the sonogram we asked the tech to avoid showing us "the goods" and asked her to put the info in the card...we would wing it from there.

The sonogram was unbelievable, amazing, incredible, and any other adjective you could use to describe seeing one of the loves of my life for the first time! She moved around alot so we were able to see her wiggle her toes and toss her arms about. She kept covering her little face with her hands, which was adorable! The tech was great and showed us all the cute stuff - and the important stuff. It really is amazing how detailed the ultrasounds are...we were even able to see the blood pumping to and from her heart. The tech also let us know that she weighed 10 ounces, which means she is a little bigger than average (the books say a baby at 19 weeks should weigh around 8.5 ounces.) The whole process lasted around 30 minutes and the tech made sure to take lots of photos for us (including one pointing out whether it was a boy or girl! Which turned out to be a pretty clear shot! haha) Here are some of the pictures:

After the ultrasound I had my 3rd appointment with Dr. Hodny...this was the first time I actually had to wait past my appointment time and it took F.O.R.E.V.E.R.(Keep in mind the entire time we were waiting around we had the envelope that said what "it" was and decided we wouldn't look quite yet...) After we got in to see the doctor we did the normal checkup, weight/blood pressure/measure/heartbeat/etc. Everything looks healthy and we are growing as scheduled. During the ultrasound her heartbeat was 161 and during the appointment it was 144...so she must have calmed down by the time we got to the 2nd appointment.

After we FINALLY left the doctor's office (with sealed envelope in hand) we decided to torture ourselves a little more and wait until we were in front of Bella Luna to open the envelope. After we parked the car, I was dying to find out and we decided to rip the envelope open right there and see if we were going to be buying pink or blue! I held the envelope so that we could look at the same time...and there were the words "It's a girl! Congratulations!" I think we were both in shock for a second and then we started laughing, kissing, and hugging. We were both so excited and happy to find out that a little girl would be entering our lives in just a few short months!

We went to Bella Luna right away and were overwhelmed with the amount of adorably girly outfits. Everything from huge bows to tutus! :) We decided to just buy a few things, which included a pink football hair bow and a crocheted owl stocking cap. ADORABLE! We then went to dinner at Gella's and started making phone calls to our family and friends to spread the news.

The first person to find out was Aunt Whitney. Bryant announced that we were having a little girl by telling Whitney, "Well, it looks like Lyla is going to get a Remy!" (To explain this better...from the very beginning, we decided that if we had a girl we would name her Remy and if a boy it would be Owen. However, the other day I asked Bryant if we would definitely call her Remy or him Owen once we found out and he said no - so I figured we would still think about it once we found out. On the day of the ultrasound Whitney sent us a text that said, "Just so you know, Lyla says Remy way better than Owen.") In all of the excitement after finding out it was a girl - I hadn't even thought about what her name would be for sure, until I heard Bryant tell Whitney that Lyla was getting a Remy - so I guess that's it...our baby girl has a name! Well a first name at least...we still haven't decided on the middle name yet. :) Stay tuned for the name blog!

Anyways, to wrap up this incredibly long post, we couldn't be happier and am I so excited to finally be able to start making some decisions on our little GIRL'S room and prepare for her arrival! We are still waiting to hear back from Dr. Hodny to make sure that everything looked healthy from the ultrasound. He told us that the radiologist would look at it and let us know how everything turned out. He told us not to worry because if there was anything major that was wrong they would have called him right away. I'm anxious to hear back, but am optimistic that our beautiful little girl will be just fine! :)

Happy Thanksgiving

We’re ALMOST halfway there! At 19 weeks, Baby M is the size of a mango – which makes him/her around 6 inches long and 8.5 ounces. I think this is the last week that Baby M is measured from crown to rump, so there will probably be a dramatic increase in how long Baby M is next week when he/she is measured from crown to toe. During this week my book tells me that the baby is developing a protective coating over his/her skin called vernix caseosa. It’s a greasy, cheese-like substance that keeps the baby’s skin protected while hanging out in amniotic fluid for 9 months. It sounds disgusting, but I’m sure it would be painful without it when the baby makes his/her debut.

In my next update I will no longer have to use he/she or his/her! We may also be able to drop the name “Baby M” soon as we pretty much have it narrowed down to what we will be naming the baby once we find out the gender…but no promises! :) We only have 2 days left until we find out what we are having…and I’m sure it will be the longest 2 days of my life. I am thankful that Thanksgiving was this week so that it made the time go a little faster – we also got our Christmas tree and decorations put up! This year we spent Thanksgiving at my parent’s house for both lunch and dinner – which were amazing, as usual! Everybody was home, except for Mandy and her family; she had to work on Thanksgiving Day in KC. We weren’t able to spend Thanksgiving with Bryant’s family this here either; they celebrated the holiday in Wichita. Unfortunately, Bryant had to work on Friday and today, so we couldn’t leave town. Hopefully we will be able to spend Christmas with both of our families this year though. It is crazy to think that next year during the holiday season we will be a family of THREE! :)

I have been feeling pretty good this past week – although my hips are starting to get a little sore from sleeping on my side and the round ligament pain is back. It’s not terrible pain, but it certainly doesn’t feel great. The nosebleeds have stopped for now, which I am also very thankful for.

Speaking of being thankful, this Thanksgiving I have been thinking about how thankful I am for just about everything. Bryant & I have been very blessed and couldn’t be happier right now. This has been a whirl-wind of a year, which sometimes makes it easy to forget how great our life really is, especially with Baby M on the way and a healthy pregnancy thus far. We recently heard a story about a little boy and watched a music video based on the little boy's life called “One Last Christmas.”

Here is a link to the story: http://www.matthewwest.com/2010/11/30/one-last-christmas

And here is a link to the music video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye39mgcHC3E

It really puts everything in perspective and makes me appreciate our life even more. You should check it out…but make sure you have a box of Kleenex nearby!

Happy Thanksgiving

One More Week!

Only 1 week until our next baby appointment...7 days until Bryant & I find out if we are having a little boy or little girl...168 hours until we know if we will be decorating Baby M's room in pink or blue...10,080 seconds until...okay, you get the point! :) Seriously, I don't know how anybody can wait their entire pregnancy to find out what they are having!

For the update on Baby M, we are currently at 18 weeks...almost to the halfway point! Baby M is the size of a sweet potato. And, if the food reference doesn't give you a visual, Baby M is now around 7 ounces and is getting close to 6 inches long. Baby M's movements are becoming more and more noticeable and happen several times a day...in fact last night instead of the normal butterfly feeling, it felt like Baby M actually kicked me (more like a he/she flicked the inside of my stomach!) My books tell me that he/she is passing the time yawning, hiccuping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking and swallowing...he/she is a busy little thing! I find it really amusing to think about something the size of a sweet potato kicking its little legs and arms... I also also hope that Baby M isn't suffering from the hiccups at all...hiccups are the w.o.r.s.t.

Last night Bryant & I finally got out of town and went to Hays for dinner and a movie! We ate at Gutierrez and watched Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. I had SUCH a great time and was so happy to spend some time away with my favorite person! :) I am really looking forward to Thanksgiving this week and having a couple of days off from work...hopefully I will be able to get our Christmas tree up on Friday! I have been DYING to put up Christmas decorations...it will also help the next week go by a little faster! Also, this will be the first time I haven't been studying for finals in many years so I am anxious to be able to just enjoy the holiday season. (I'm also really looking forward to be able to buy Baby M some Christmas presents once we know if it's a he or a she!) :)

Lots of love,

It Happened...It Finally Happened!

For the first time last night Bryant & I felt Baby M move! :) We were laying in bed and I was in the the middle of a sentence when I felt it...it stunned me and I couldn't even talk for a minute. Bryant finally asked why I didn't finish my sentence and I came back to reality and told him that I could feel our little poppy seed moving around - he put his hand on my belly right away and the second he touched me Baby M moved! I couldn't believe he could actually feel it this soon, but there was no mistaking it! It was the best feeling in the world - and of course it was almost impossible for me to fall asleep as I laid there forever waiting to feel him/her move around some more.

Today I have felt the little onion moving around occasionally and it is SO unbelievable! It feels like butterflies and is making it very hard for me to concentrate at work. It must be true that Baby M can hear my voice now, because I've been pleading with him/her to move for several days now...he/she must have gotten the message! Glad to know that Baby M has been listening to his/her mama! :)

Bryant, Danielle & Belly

P.S. I forgot to mention in my last post that Belly celebrated his birthday on Sunday. The old man is 4 years old...28 in dog years (my baby is officially older than me.) Even though he can't talk, I'm pretty sure he enjoyed the day which began with bacon for breakfast and ended with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert! :) He also worked in several naps throughout the day...

Seventeen

Baby M is now the size of an onion! Growing at rapid speed, Baby M now weighs around 5.9 ounces and is 5.1 inches long. His/her cartilage is now turning to bone and he/she is getting some meat on those bones (just in time for winter!) Everything I have been reading keeps assuring me that sooner than later I will feel the baby moving, but alas, I’m still waaaaaaaaaiting... Any day now Baby M...

Life has been pretty boring here lately. The highlight of this past week was that Bryant & I went out to eat at 183 Lanes...the bowling alley in town (in case you didn’t know). Now, I’m not complaining, it’s just very different from how we used to spend our evenings before moving to Stockton and before Baby M. Hopefully we will find some time to get out of town sooner than later, I think we both could use a date night! I would love to go to Denver this winter...but mostly I want to go so I can drink spiked hot chocolate and sit in a hot tub with snow on the ground at a ski resort...and since I can’t have alcohol, sit in hot tubs, or ski anytime soon, maybe we’ll wait until next winter when Baby M can enjoy it too! :)

Bryant made his first solo baby purchase this past week, he bought Baby M a Jayhawk Pillow Pet! It’s hilariously cute and it was very sweet of him. He also bought a new football, just in case Baby M wants to play some catch when he/she makes his/her debut... Gee, I wonder if he’s hoping that Baby M is a “he.”

This morning I had a massive nose bleed that lasted for around 30 minutes. I was trying to get ready for work and literally had to re-shower after I finally got the bleeding to stop. I think I had mentioned in a previous blog that I had some nose bleeding over the past few weeks (which apparently is normal in the 2nd trimester) but what happened this morning was out of control. I actually called Dr. Hodny's office as I was getting worried about the length of time the nose bleed lasted and the amount of blood. His nurse seemed worried at first but told me that as long as it was not associated with a headache that it should be okay, but if it happens again, I need to go to the hospital right away. Let's hope this was a one time kinda thing!

The next doctor's appointment is in TWO WEEKS from today! We are so so SO excited - I can't believe we're actually going to know what we're having in approximately 337 hours!!!! :) I seriously need to find something to keep me busy over the next 2 weeks or I might go crazy!

Until next week,

Sweet 16

At 16 weeks Baby M is the size of an avocado. I am starting to get confused by the fruit chart, because last week Baby M was the size of an orange - which I'm positive is bigger than an avocado...oh well, I suppose in the grand scheme of things, fruit comparisons are irrelevant! :) Either way, Baby M is around 4.6 inches long and 3.5 ounces. Oddly enough, this seems huge!

Word on the street is that at 16 weeks Baby M is now able to listen to our voices - guess we should start paying a little more attention to the content of our conversations! :) Baby M is also growing eye lashes, eye brows and hair. He/she has also begun to form taste buds. Baby M, you are welcome in advance for the large quantities of ice cream and Butterfingers that I have been consuming.

The second trimester has been going as well as can be expected. I have had a few headaches recently (although this could just be sinus issues or weather) and I have had a few nosebleeds. Apparently pregnant nosebleeds are normal...although annoying and gross. I have noticed that I feel slightly out of breath after doing simple tasks and am attributing this to pregnancy...which again is apparently normal as my insides and lungs are starting to get crowded. I definitely have a noticeable "swelling" in my abdomen and I am really starting to feel pregnant. Speaking of feeling pregnant, I still haven't felt Baby M kick - but I am so anxious for when I do! I try to lay very still every night before bed and wait for it, but nothing yet. Don't worry - you will be the first to know when I do...well after I tell Baby M's daddy of course! :)

Speaking of Baby M's daddy...Baby M doesn't know how lucky he/she is! Seriously, Bryant has been the BEST soon-to-be daddy ever. He has been working very hard on Baby M's room lately and now we have all the furniture put together, the closet organizer in and the new blinds are installed! He has also been taking great care of me and keeping me happy...which I am the first to admit is not an easy task! I am especially thankful for the ice cream that he not only gets for me, but adds awesome toppings to (like left-over Butterfingers from Halloween!)

Speaking of how lucky Baby M is, last week we received our car set and stroller travel system, thanks to Grandma Berland! I'm not sure if I mentioned it or not when I blogged about Baby M's furniture, but that was a gift from Grandma Muir! Seriously... Luckiest. Baby. Ever. Here is a picture of the travel system, it is neutral so it will be great for a boy or a girl.

Suger & Spice or Puppy Dog Tails?

Only 3 weeks and 2 days until we find out whether we will be shopping for blue or pink! :)

I know everybody says when they're pregnant that they don't care if they have a boy or girl, as long as it's healthy, but come on...isn't there at least one time you've thought it would be more fun to have one than the other???!!!

I have always said that it doesn't matter to me whether it's a boy or girl, because eventually I would like to have one of each anyways (even though I have secretly been hoping that I would get a girl first!) I mean obviously I want nothing more than a healthy baby, but I can't pretend I don't just melt when I see baby girl clothes! On top of that, I have just had a "feeling" from the beginning that we are having a little girl. AND everyone in our immediate family has had a girl first...my mom, sister, brother, Ruthie and Whitney. But now...

....Now, I'm beginning to feel differently. I now am convinced that we are having a boy. Why the change? I have no idea - it's just a feeling. The other day I was getting my hair cut and there was a little boy in the salon who was also getting his hair cut. I have no idea why, but as I was watching him I almost started crying. **Hello hormones** He was the cutest thing and I think it finally hit me that I really do want a little boy just as much as I want a little girl. I don't know why this thought has been escaping me, especially since I have 2 nephews who I am obsessed with! (And can you imagine anything cuter than a little Bryant?!?!?) Also, recently when I talk about Baby M I have noticed that I keep saying "he."

Obviously there is still a 50% chance that I am wrong, but I suppose we'll find out in just a few short weeks (PLEASE let the weeks be short!) Either way, I know that both Bryant & I will be over the moon excited and we will continue to pray that Baby M is as healthy as can be! :)

Speaking of a little Bryant... Today, Belly was very disappointed that he didn't get to go with Bryant to the farm. As Bryant was leaving and was explaining to Belly's sad little face that he would be back soon and that Belly would get to stay home and cuddle with me I saw our future... Someday Bryant will be heading out to the farm to work on motorcycles or to hunt and he will have to explain to Baby M that he/she can't go with him, but will have to stay at home with momma instead. I'm sure there will be tears shed and it will seem like the end of the world, but I really can't wait for those days. Baby M, I am just so excited to be your momma that I even look forward to the times when your heart is broken and instead of going to the farm, you stay home with me on Saturday mornings and cuddle! And I'm sure that your daddy is more than excited for the days when you are big enough to go to the farm with him! :)

Orange You Glad We're at 15 Weeks?!

You may have already figured this one out, but at 15 weeks Baby M is the size of a navel orange! This weekly update actually made me a little hungry...mmmm oranges! :) Looks like I'll need to make a trip to the grocery store soon to get some citrus.

According to the many weekly updates I get, our little poppy seed baby is currently around 4 inches (crown to rump) and 2.5 ounces...AND his/her legs out-measure his/her arms now. Hello normal proportions! :) Although if Baby M is anything like its momma it will be lucky if its legs are much longer than its arms... Sorry Baby M, but the odds that you are tall are against you...

I have noticed that there are alot of early 2nd trimester mommas on pregnancy websites that are talking about feeling the baby start to move. Many are saying they have already been feeling their babies move as early as 14 weeks! We haven't been so lucky in this house and we're still waiting for that first movement. However, most books I've read said that it's likely to be anywhere between 16 and 22 weeks...so I suppose I won't hold my breath anytime soon. I actually thought I felt movement last week, but haven't felt anything since, so I'll chalk that up to stomach grumbling! Dang.

I am trying to learn to sleep on my side, but seem to wake up on my back most mornings. I can no longer comfortably sleep on my stomach anymore...and learning to sleep in a different position has been difficult for me. I have been feeling pretty great lately - still a little tired, but I am over the sinus infection and haven't felt nauseous in several weeks. I am supposed to be getting a flu shot this coming week as well...lets hope I don't have a bad reaction to it. (I've never had a flu shot before.)

I have been wearing the belly band with my jeans more recently. I can still get my jeans buttoned but it is definitely not comfortable for very long... My works pants are still fitting fine, but my shirts are starting to seem short. Looks like I will need to start looking for some maternity tops soon. As of now I haven't gained any weight, but am about 3 or 4 pounds less than when I started...not sure how this is possible since I was only nauseous, (didn't actually throw up much) and feel like I'm still eating about the same, but Dr. Hodny didn't seem worried and I'm not going to complain!

We are celebrating Halloween this weekend with a party at the Hilbrinks! Bryant is going to be a doctor and I am going to be an x-ray patient. (It's really a skeleton, but x-ray patient goes better with Bryant's costume.) Here is my costume... (FYI: This is NOT me in the picture - my bump is nowhere near that size!)

Shaun, Whitney & Lyla are also in town this weekend! It seems like we haven't seen them forever, so we are VERY happy to have them around for a few days. Lyla is the cutest cookie monster you've ever seen! :) We are looking forward to handing out candy in Stockton this year since we will know most of the kids that will be stopping by. This is much better than handing out candy in a town where we didn't know anybody! :)

We are going to try to start taking weekly "bump" pictures - now that I'm starting to actually get a bump...so stay tuned for future pictures! :)

Happy Halloween,

Bryant, Danielle & Belly

Welcome to the Second Trimester

Clearly I'm behind by a few weeks...

For a quick "fruit recap" Baby M went from the size of a lime in Week 11 - to a plum in Week 12 - to a peach in Week 13 - to the size of a LEMON in Week 14...which is where we are now! Baby M is currently around 3.5 inches and 1.5 ounces. (Obviously the fruit comparison has more to do with length than weight, since a lemon definitely weighs more than 1.5 ounces.) During this week Baby M is busy doubling his/her weight from last week and is likely sucking his/her thumb and wiggling its toes! Baby M is also getting lots of lanugo (peach-fuzz like hair) all over his/her body which helps keep our little poppy seed baby warm.

The past few weeks have been fairly tame for both Bryant & I - work, sleep, work, sleep, etc. This past week I haven't felt very good - I think that my annual sinus infection has arrived. Unfortunately I can't take any antibiotics, so it looks like Mucinex and nasal spray will have to get me through this one. I have not had much of an appetite this week, but know that I need to eat something - so I'm sticking with ice cream (I need more calcium, right?!) Great way to start off my 2nd trimester. Ugh.

Yesterday I had my 2nd doctor appointment, which was the first time I was able to meet the actual doctor, Dr. Hodny. I loved him and am very happy to have a doctor that I am comfortable with. He was very thorough and sat around long enough for me to ask him all the questions I wanted to. While at the appointment I got to hear Baby M's heartbeat again, which was 156. This time was a little different because while we were trying to hear the heartbeat we kept hearing this weird bubble sound - I thought it was my stomach growling, but the nurse told me that it is actually our little poppy seed baby moving around! She then went on to tell me that Baby M is VERY active and that I could probably expect to feel some movement sooner than later...CANNOT WAIT! :) Dr. Hodny said that everything looked/sounded perfect and we scheduled our next appointment for November 28...this is a MAJOR date because we will also get to do the sonogram! YEAAAAAA for finding out if this little poppy seed is a boy or a girl!!!! :)

In other big news we ordered furniture and are starting to put the baby room together. Ahhhhh! So far Bryant has put together the dresser and changing table and they couldn't be more perfect! Hopefully we'll get the crib put together soon...I'm dying to see it finished! :) Here is what the finished product will look like.

Bryant keeps promising he will be the next to blog...so keep your fingers crossed! :)

11 Weeks

At 11 weeks, Baby M is now the size of a lime! I definitely can tell that I am approaching the end of the first trimester, because I am starting to feel like I have a little energy back (I don't feel like the walking dead) and I also haven't felt nauseous for the last week or so!

In my last post I mentioned that I was having some "round ligament pain" and apparently it is getting worse. :( Anybody who knows me knows that if I sneeze once, I'm going to sneeze a hundred times...well turns out that whenever I sneeze that pain in my stomach is AWFUL! (Like make you fall down on the floor and cry awful.) And because I can't stop sneezing once I start, the pain seems to go on forever. Luckily I have figured out that if I'm able to bend over while sneezing it doesn't hurt quite as bad...a little awkward, but WAY less pain. Hopefully I'll never have to do this in court...

I forgot to mention in my last post that when we had our first doctor's appointment our doctor told us the OFFICIAL DUE DATE is: April 21, 2012! :) Also, our next doctor's appointment is scheduled for October 21st - when I will be 14 weeks.

Best Sound in the World

So while I complained in an earlier blog that time just seemed to be crawling by, all the sudden it seems like time is flying! Life is pretty busy right now with work and what seems like non-stop traveling, and I just can’t seem to keep up with blogging on a weekly basis. Excuses, excuses! :)

Anyways, so at 10 weeks Baby M is the size of a large prune. Weighing in at a whopping .14 ounces and 1.2 inches long! :) While I still don’t look pregnant, my jeans are definitely starting to get a little tight...although they were getting a little tight before I was ever pregnant! haha. I have been having some “round ligament pain” which is basically due to my ligaments and muscles stretching...it basically feels like I have been doing tons of sit-ups, which, I haven’t...hence the tight jeans! All of my dress pants are still fitting good for work, so I’m not moving up to maternity clothes just yet, but I will probably start using the belly band on my jeans before too long.

Towards the end of the 10th week we had our first doctor’s appointment - to be exact it was on September 28, 2011. Bryant was able to join Baby M & I...which we were very happy about! :) The appointment went pretty quick and was with our doctor’s nurse. (We didn’t actually get to meet our doctor just yet.) She went over basic information and because I had already done blood testing and a pelvic exam when I went to the ER at 6 weeks I didn’t have to re-do any of that.

In BIG news, we were able to hear Baby M’s heartbeat at our appointment! It was pretty amazing...and SO loud. The heart rate was 161, which according to an old wive’s tale means it’s a girl... On the other hand, according to the Chinese calendar we are having a boy... Guess we will just have to wait a few more weeks to figure it out! How on earth did I get this impatient???

In other big news, on the following Friday I was (finally) sworn in to the Kansas Bar - which means that I am officially official!

Catch Up

Well, it didn’t take long for me to fall off the weekly blogging wagon!

8 Weeks
Two weeks ago Bryant & I went on a family vacation to Perdido Key, Florida with Verl, Ruthie, Shaun, Whitney & Lyla...what a great time! We spent the week at beach house relaxing, sun tanning, eating, and drinking...well, I didn’t get to drink obviously! :) This was such a great get-away and couldn’t have came at a better time. Verl & Ruthie spoiled us all rotten and we really appreciated the trip.

As far as the pregnancy goes, during the 8 week point is when I started getting realllllllly tired. Everything seems exhausting! I am hoping that my pregnancy follows along with the “normal pregnancy” and that I get some energy back in the next few weeks or so. At 8 weeks, Baby M was the size of a raspberry and according to www.thebump.com was starting to move his/her arms and legs...even though I won’t be able to feel those movements for a few more months. It is so weird to think that there is a little person inside of my belly that is just moving all over the place! Also, during this week Baby M lost his/her tail, we hope... :)

9 Weeks
Currently I am at 9 weeks and 5 days...so I’m not THAT far behind with blogging. At the 9 week mark Baby M was the size of a green olive and is no longer an embryo - but a full fledged fetus. I also read that Baby M’s facial features are becoming more distinct. With that in mind, I have been having so much fun imagining what our little poppy seed baby is going to look like. Will he/she have hair right away? (I did not - Bryant did) If he/she does have hair will his/her hair be dark or light? (I had light hair, Bryant had dark hair) Will Baby M be pale like me or darker complected like Bryant? Brown eyes or blue eyes?! The questions go on and on...

This week I stopped by Target and found myself glued to the baby section looking at blankets, high chairs, car seats, baby furniture, etc. I am SO excited to start baby shopping! I had to stop myself from buying any clothes, since we obviously do not know yet if it is a boy or girl...and won’t for at least another 9 weeks or longer...but there are some seriously cute outfits! With that being said, we ARE going to find out whether we are having a boy or a girl! We are both way to impatient to wait until THE DAY to find out. We have already picked out names...pretty much. We have decided on a boy name (first and middle) and we know what the girl’s first name would be, but haven’t quite decided on her middle name yet.

Okay, I will blog again in a few days and will officially be caught-up! :)

Lots of love,

Bryant, Danielle, Belly & Baby M

S.E.V.E.N. Weeks

Baby M is currently the size of a blueberry! While on one hand this seems impossibly small, on the other hand, we cannot get over how much this little baby has already grown. In fact, Baby M has actually doubled in size since last week! At this point, hands and feet are starting to emerge from Baby M's tiny little arms and legs - and his/her brain is developing like crazy.

This past week was fairly eventful. First of all, Bryant & I joined Verl, Ruthie, Shaun, Whitney, Lyla and the Garvey's in Topeka/Manhattan for a weekend of shopping and golfing. While we were there I had some light spotting, so when we got home I called my doctor (who I have not seen for a regular appointment yet) to see what I should do. My doctor suggested that I go to the ER to have an official check-up on Baby M. I was incredibly nervous and scared about going to the ER, but it turned out that everything was healthy and normal! :) Whew!!! While I was at the ER I was actually able to see our little poppy seed baby's heart pounding away! AMAZING! Unfortunately, Bryant was unable to come to the ER with me, so he did not get to see Baby M's heartbeat yet, but he will soon enough - our first appointment is coming up quickly! :)

In other news - I also found out this past weekend that I PASSED THE BAR! Woohooo! This is exciting news! :) I felt like I had been holding my breath for the past 5 weeks or so and now I can finally breathe. Luckily on the night I found out that I passed we had already planned on having friends over for a BBQ so it ended up being a great night to celebrate...sans champagne of course! :) Our friends John & Laura Schmidt came to town to spend Labor Day Weekend with us, so it was great to be able to celebrate with them too! They brought their 11 month old little boy, Jude, with them, so Bryant & I had a little peek into our future. We couldn't be more excited, Jude is a pretty sweet baby!

We are heading out to Florida with Bryant's family soon. VACATION! :) This will be our last vacation as a family of two...

6 Weeks

6 weeks...that's it?!?! I have a feeling that the next several months are going to crawllllll by. Everybody keeps telling me that it will fly by, but for now I have my doubts! :) I can't believe I have to wait 4 MORE weeks until I even get to go see the doctor for the first time!

Currently, Baby M is the size of a sweet pea and is growing like a weed! The weekly updates also tell me that Baby M is getting eyes, ears, a nose, a chin, and cheeks! Sounds like this little Poppy Seed is starting to look more like a baby and less like a tad pole! :) {Baby M, it looks like we are going to keep calling you "Our Poppy Seed Baby" for awhile, even though we know that you are already MUCH bigger than that. The nickname just seemed to stick and we think it suits you!}

6 weeks is definitely a weird time in pregnancy world - I don't feel or look pregnant and really the only difference in my day-to-day life is that I am living without wine! :) Well, I suppose there are some other differences, like trying to eat more "balanced" meals; going on nightly walks with Bryant & Belly; and drinking water, water, and more water. Normally I don't drink nearly as much water as I should, but lately I have been INCREDIBLY thirsty, so it has been really easy to get in the right daily amount. I still feel great - and I have only had a few afternoons where I felt a little sick to my stomach. I am definitely feeling tired, but that's not unusual.

Our excitement is increasing by the day and I CANNOT wait to start baby shopping! Luckily we have an empty room right across the hall from our bedroom that will be Baby M's new room. We couldn't be happier about filling it in the Spring! :)

A piece of advice that we received from several friends and family this week is to start looking for daycare now. Both Bryant & I will definitely have to go back to work after Baby M is born, so daycare is definitely in our future. I called one tonight and hopefully will hear back on whether or not we have a spot for next June soon. It is just crazy that we are already enrolling in daycare!

This weekend we are heading to Topeka and Manhattan for a golfing/shopping trip with Bryant's family. I am looking forward to doing some shopping since we are heading to Florida in 2 weeks for vacation with Bryant's family again! So excited! Hopefully all of these fun trips will make the time fly by. I should also be hearing back soon about whether or not I passed the Kansas Bar. Pray for me.

Until Week 7...

Whoa Baby!

Family and friends...meet Baby M!

We're having a baby! As of now I am only 5 weeks...not very far, but we are very excited! We know all the rules about when you should start telling family and friends, but we just weren't able to keep this secret to ourselves. Because we live so close to so many of our family and friends and see them often we knew it would only be a matter of time before they guessed it on their own. We wanted to be able to share the news rather than to have everybody guess it, so we thought we would just go ahead and tell everyone! :) SURPRISE!

We could not be happier! Bryant & I have been talking about getting to this point in our lives for quite awhile now and it has finally happened! My first appointment with Dr. Hodny is not scheduled until September 28th (I will be 10.5 weeks at that point) - however according to all the Google Due Date Calculators, we should be expecting Baby M to make his or her debut sometime between April 20, 2012 and April 22, 2012. April 22 also happens to be Whitney's birthday! The due date seems like light years from now! I guess we will learn alot about patience over the next 9 months or so.

I cannot begin to describe how happy and excited we are to have our very own baby on the way! We have alot to learn, but I am absolutely positive that we will love this baby with everything that we have. Bryant will be an amazing daddy and hopefully Belly will behave and love Baby M as much as we do! :)

I am going to try to blog weekly about any pregnancy news and any other exciting details in our lives. With that being said, I'm sure there will be some posts that bore you to death. I apologize in advance, but through this blog I would like to keep a pregnancy journal of sorts that we can share with Baby M someday. I will try to keep all the fun stuff at the beginning... :)

Last week Bryant & I read in our very useful "What to Expect When You're Expecting" book that last week (4 weeks) Baby M was the size of a poppy seed. Baby M, we have been calling you "Poppy Seed Baby" and cannot get over how amazing this all is! You just might be stuck with this new nickname - even though you are definitely growing and are already bigger than a poppy seed! We cannot help but smile every time we talk or think about you! Currently, Baby M is the size of an apple seed. I think that it's kind of funny that all the baby books and websites measure the size of the baby in terms of food! :)

As of right now I really don't have any "symptoms" - although we also read that I probably won't experience any those for at least a few more weeks. I definitely feel tired, but I am always pretty tired - so that's nothing new. I also have had some minor cramping - which is a pretty scary feeling, but we have also read and heard from friends/family that the cramps are normal. Whew! I cringe thinking about the possibility of morning sickness, but know that it is all for good reason! Please be nice to me Baby M! :) I'm nervous about things that I'm not supposed to do and therefore I am basically just taking prenatal vitamins and avoiding doing anything that might be bad for me and Baby M (caffeine, deli meat, pain relievers (oh how I will miss Excedrin), etc.) I have been googling and reading like crazy trying to figure out exactly what I "should" be doing, but it seems like everything I read is contradicted by something else I read. Go figure! I cannot wait to meet with Dr. Hodny so I can start asking some questions.

Baby M - everybody is so excited about the news! We started by telling both of our families and close friends and then we started announcing it to everybody. I posted the news on Facebook yesterday and received an overwhelming response of congratulations! Turns out everybody loves babies! :)

Until the 6th week...

Love,

Bryant, Danielle, Belly & Baby M

M.A.J.O.R. Life Changes

Well once again I will begin by apologizing for being such an awful blogger. My last blog was in April and at that time, as my previous post states, we were drinking a lot of champagne! Bryant & I were both going through MANY changes - most of which were very exciting...some which were a little scary. Since April we have had even MORE changes - and even MORE champagne! :) Let's break this down by month...

May:
05.02.11: Bryant moved home and began his new job as the Branch Manager of Farmers National Bank in Stockton. He trained for a few weeks in Phillipsburg at the main branch location and quickly caught on. Around the middle to late May he started in the Stockton office and has been loving it ever since! He has been doing a great job and is really excited about everything he is learning. We couldn't be happier with how well this new career change has gone!

05.06.11: I celebrated my 26th birthday - by studying for finals... Thank God this is the last year this will happen! :)

05.13.11: Belly & I joined Bryant and officially began living in Stockton at Ruthie & Verl's house. We couldn't be more grateful or appreciative to Ruthie & Verl for letting us (and Belly) stay with them for several weeks.

05.18.11: Lyla celebrated her 2nd birthday and Jenna celebrated her 1st birthday. Luckily we were able to see each of these sweet little girls at their birthday parties. They are both getting so big so fast it's unbelievable! Lyla is really starting to talk ALOT (in sentences) and Jenna is everywhere and in everything. Love watching these two little girls grow!

05.19.11: My baby sister graduated from 8th grade! Holy cow...she's going to be in high school and will be driving a car soon. Watching her grow up makes me very proud - yet also makes me a little sad...it's going too fast! I am so glad that we are now living back home so we can watch more of her sporting events throughout her next four years in high school.

05.21.11: I graduated from law school! WHOOOHOOOOO! This day had been highly anticipated! While it seemed to drag on forever - and at many times I actually thought that I would NEVER make any money - it has finally came to an end. My entire family and Bryant's entire family were able to make it to the graduation ceremony and we all went out for dinner to celebrate after. Later that night Bryant & I celebrated with our KC friends at John & Laura Schmidt's house. It was a fantastic weekend!

05.28.11: We celebrated my law school graduation (again) at my parent's house with all of our friends and family from Stockton. Again, it was an awesome party and we were all able to enjoy several margaritas. Not only do I have my J.D., but I can also make a pretty mean margarita after that night! :)

05.30.11: I began working as the Assistant County Attorney for Rooks County. I wasn't able to really get too involved over the summer while I was studying to take the Kansas Bar, but I was able to start getting familiar with everything and everyone. During this time I was getting very excited about passing the Bar and finally being able to REALLY start working.

June:

06.11.11: We moved into our new home in Stockton! So far throughout the months of June & July we made a few renovations and have been unpacking and trying to find a place for everything. The house has been wonderful and we have spent many nights hanging out on the back porch enjoying the summer with our friends. Since moving home I have been able to join the Bunco group (so much fun!), Bryant has been able to go golfing almost every Tuesday night for Men's Night and he also played on a softball team every Wednesday night. We are definitely staying busy. We couldn't be happier to be back home! We are really looking forward to our future here.

06.12.11: We celebrated Bryant's 29th birthday...by unpacking and cleaning the new house. Someday we will figure out how to celebrate our birthdays with a little fun! :)

06.13.11: My newest nephew, Eli Jacob Long, arrived! Born right on time, Mandy delivered a perfectly healthy baby boy. Both mama and baby have been doing great. He is such a doll and luckily we have been able to see him a few times this summer even though we moved back to Stockton and Mandy lives in Olathe. We were worried about how much we would still see Mandy & her family and Whitney & her family, but so far we have actually be able to see both of their families quite a bit!

July

07.04.11: Happy Fourth of July! We celebrated the weekend by hanging out at the lake with both of our families, including Mandy, Justin, Alex, Ethan and Eli - AND Whitney, Shaun & Lyla. It was a great weekend and was one of the last chances I would have for the rest of the summer to have any fun. For the next 3 weeks or so I would live in pure hell as I studied for the bar exam that was quickly approaching.

07.26.11 - 07.27.11: I took the Bar. This was definitely the most nervous I had EVER been! I was nauseous the entire 2 days and couldn't sleep or eat. It was a miserable week and I hope and pray that I never have to take that test again. It will take 6 weeks to get my results in, so I should find out if I passed around the middle of September! Wish me luck and keep praying for me.

07.29.11 - 07.31.11: We headed to Estes Park, CO to celebrate Bryant's Grandma Ostmeyer's 90th birthday party! We had a great weekend and it was so fun to see all of the Ostmeyers. While it was a short trip we are so happy that we were able to make it and to celebrate such a memorable event with everyone.

07.31.11: Believe it or not - Bryant & I celebrated our FIRST ANNIVERSARY! Neither of us can believe that it has already been an entire year since the day we got married. We spent the day driving back from Estes Park, so we weren't able to do anything too exciting, but we did spend the day together and had so much fun remembering all the amazing parts of our wedding day one year ago. After we got home we ate a piece of our wedding cake, drank champagne, and took a shot of tequila that we brought home from our honeymoon! Cheers to many more! :)

08.01.11: I began working at Ed Hageman's private office, in addition to working as the Assistant County Attorney for Rooks County. Currently I am working under a temporary license, but hopefully by the end of September I will be fully licensed! Again...pray for me! :)

08.13.11: Bryant & I headed to St. Louis to celebrate the wedding of Grant Burchfield and Emily Varese. Bryant & Grant were fraternity brothers at KU and have been great friends ever since. Bryant stood up with Grant as one of his best men. The wedding weekend was definitely memorable and amazing! Grant & Emily thought of every detail and really made it special. We both felt very lucky to celebrate such an important day with them. Congratulations Grant & Emily! We love you both.

Whew! That was exhausting! Now that we're all caught up I'll try to stay more in touch and blog a little more. :) We hope that you have all enjoyed your summer and continue to enjoy what is left of it! (I'll try to add corresonding pictures soon.)

Love,

Bryant, Danielle & Belly

Champagne Days

2011 has been pretty eventful for the Muirs! Life is rapidly changing before our eyes and it doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon...

In February we went to Vegas with the Glendenings and had the absolute BEST time! Nate & I both had a lucky streak - although, I'm not so sure that any of us brought any of that lucky money home with us...Vegas definitely won! We saw Mystere, a Cirque de Soleil show at Treasure Island which was amazing! We also went out for dinner at the Stratosphere - yum! We spent the majority of the rest of the time playing Black Jack and hitting up the slots. It was one of our best vacations yet with some of our very best friends - what more could you ask for!?!?

March was quite the month for us! We found out that I am officially going to be working with Ed Hageman at his office in Stockton and will also be the Assistant Rooks County Attorney - very exciting news! (Champagne!) I couldn't ask for a better attorney to work with and learn from. I am very lucky to have such a great opportunity. We also couldn't be happier about moving back home and living so close to so many friends and family. Bryant was also offered a job with Farmers National Bank in Stockton! (Champagne!) He will be the Branch Manager for the Stockton office. I am so proud of him and excited for him to begin a new career. He couldn't be happier! Bryant will be starting on May 2 and I will be moving home shortly after.

We also started the process to buy a home in Stockton! (Champagne!) As of now it looks like we should close around June 15, so there will only be a month or so where we are crashing at our parents - sorry moms & dads! :) We cannot stop talking about how excited we are to be back home and be able to slow down. The thought of being able to run out to the lake on a beautiful day makes me want to do cartwheels! I know Bryant is very excited about the 2 minute drive to work everyday.

Graduation is quickly approaching. I currently have 4 weeks of school left and then my VERY last set of finals! The BAR exam is becoming more of a reality and anxiety is setting in. I plan on studying for the BAR via the online course - that way I can move home with Bryant right after graduation, rather than waiting until after the BAR in July.

It looks like we only have a few more things that need to fall in place - which means there are at least a few more champagne bottles in our future! We are still trying to sell our house. We have been on the MLS for 33 days now and have only had 2 different couples look at our house. One of the couples has been here 3 times in the past week and should be making their decision by tomorrow - if they do make an offer, they will need to close by April 27...AHHHH! Keep your fingers crossed! I also need to start focusing on the BAR so that I can pass with flying colors...or just pass...I'll take either one! :) Hopefully we will be packing our house up in the next month and making our move towards home and the rest of our lives. CAN'T WAIT!

Cheers!

Bryant, Danielle & Belly
